Commitments
What we have committed to, and how
Each commitment is reviewed by the board's risk committee. The detail below is the public summary; the methodology and assurance letters are in the sustainability report.
Scope 1 and 2 emissions reach net zero by 2050, with an interim 2030 target of 0.28 tCO2e per tonne of copper equivalent. The path relies on renewable power purchase agreements at the South American sites and progressive electrification of the mobile equipment.
Every operation maintains a site water balance reviewed by an external auditor each year. In the Andes and the Pilbara, desalinated or recycled sources cover at least 60% of process demand from 2027.
Rehabilitation starts while mining continues: 712 hectares have been reshaped, revegetated and handed to post-mining land use, against a 1,500-hectare commitment for 2030.
Critical-control management applies to the eight activities that account for the highest historical risk. TRIFR has fallen for four consecutive years; the 2030 target is at or below 1.0 per million hours.
Both tailings storage facilities are operated to the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management, with disclosure documents reviewed by the Board's risk committee each quarter.
