Salar del Halcón environmental review submitted
The environmental impact statement for the first phase of the Salar del Halcón lithium project has entered provincial review in Salta, Argentina.
The environmental impact statement covers the first phase of the project: a 25,000 t per year lithium carbonate facility with a hybrid flowsheet that combines evaporation ponds with direct lithium extraction on the harvest stream.
Baseline studies for the statement ran for three full years and include hydrogeology, flamingo populations at four Andean lakes, and an archaeology survey with the local indigenous community council.
Provincial authorities have 90 business days to issue a determination. Public consultation meetings are scheduled for the third quarter, and the project team will hold open sessions in Salta and at the nearest settlement to the salar.
